From the Studio: Works in Progress

Work in progress ceramic pieces at Elliott Ceramics studio, including a palm vase and shell vase in greenware and bisque fired form

Here's what's taking shape right now. These pieces are all about bringing a sense of an endless summer.

Palm motifs and natural colours
The large Palm Vase is shown here in bisque fired form. We've added more layers of underglaze pencil and will add clear glaze to the motifs and the interior. The outer will remain natural to bring out the clay's speckle and give a sand-like result.

Shells, shells and more shells
The larger than life shell vase is still in greenware form and the last layers of underglaze are being applied. The hundreds of individually shaped shells are drawing plenty of attention.

Contrasting shapes
The mix of shape and round edges on this last vase and the plain design is in contrast to the other two pieces. The outer will remain natural for a sand-like finish. The shells with be glazed in clear gloss. This is shown here in greenware form.
